PARCELKIND / FIELD NOTES

Calculation method

Learn how Parcelkind calculates dimensional and billable weight, handles unit conversion and rounding, and processes batches.

01

The model

Dimensional weight = outside length × width × height ÷ DIM divisor. Billable weight is the greater of actual weight and dimensional weight, rounded up to your selected weight increment.

02

The exact order

Round each input dimension up if selected. Convert those dimensions into the divisor’s unit, calculate dimensional weight, convert that weight back to the input weight unit, choose the greater weight, then apply weight rounding. For batches, round each individual box first and multiply by quantity.

03

Units and examples

Metric inputs use cm and kg; imperial inputs use inches and pounds. Divisor units are independent, so a cm³/kg rule also works with inch/lb inputs. The sample values 5000 cm³/kg and 139 in³/lb are not equivalent. Switching input units preserves the physical measurements without substituting a different divisor.

04

Your shipping rules

Rules differ by country, service and contract. Some services round measurements or actual and dimensional weights separately, apply minimums, oversize limits or special multi-piece rules. Those behaviors are outside this simplified model. Use the carrier’s current documentation or contract.

05

What this excludes

This is not a freight quote. It does not include transport rates, fuel or residential surcharges, handling fees, taxes, remote-area charges, dangerous-goods rules, insurance, dimensional limits, or packing feasibility. Box comparison does not optimize placement or prove an item will fit.

06

Batch validation and limits

The CSV must have unique length, width, height, weight headers, and may include quantity. Header order may vary. Blank quantity means one. Every invalid row is shown and blocks export; interior blank rows are errors. Up to 200 rows and 200 KB are accepted. Dimensions are greater than zero and at most 1,000,000 input units; weights are 0–1,000,000,000 and quantities 1–100,000 whole boxes. Divisor maximum is 1,000,000,000,000.

07

Numeric precision

The interface shows up to four decimal places, while calculations and CSV exports retain more precision. A small floating point tolerance avoids rounding an exact converted increment to the next increment. Use official carrier scales and measurements for billing.
